Seriously how cool is my header this month. I found this new feature in Photoshop, liquify. Very cool.

As always, I love this time of year. Finally our weather has cooled off here in Virginia. It has been so humid up until a week ago. Now, it is wonderful. Even last weekend when we went to Virginia Beach it was nice, cloud covered but dry, not humid and even a little chilly. Heavenly. We thought the place would be deserted since it was the beginning of October, unfortunately it was packed. It was the last big weekend of the season so they had vendors up and down the boardwalk. I was hoping for a nice deserted beach to run or walk on. Our new dog Cody’s first experience with sand and beaches. He seemed to love it. A little leery of the water, but eventually he stepped his front feet into the surf. It startled him a little. He is so sweet.

Bogie with his back to the camera, his brother and family, oh and my shoes.

After frollicking on the beach in the afernoon, this little guy conked out on us. Isn't he sweet.

It was nice not having a football game this past weekend at the university where I work. I worked the first three games in a row, so to have a complete weekend off was nice. This coming weekend and week is Fall break here at school. The students come back for classes on Wednesday. Strange that their Fall break is only from Saturday to Tuesday.

Other than that nothing much going on. Oh, I played a game of two on two basketball with my neighbor and his two daughters last night. It was fun. His daughter is trying out for the freshman team at school so she has been practicing. I used to play in high school and for a league after high school a little while in Milwaukee. That was back in the late 70′s, so my game is a little rusty. I missed the basket a few times but I am going to blame that on the setting sun. It’s hard to do well playing basketball when it’s getting dark. Hopefully they will ask me to play again, it was fun.

Have a good weekend everyone. All three of you.

Well the summer is truly upon us. HHH…hot, humid and hazy.

This weekend I dog sat for a co-worker/friend. She has two Italian Greyhounds. One is 10 the other is 8. Both are very sweet. The older of the two is very friendly, the younger very shy. The younger dog looks like a small deer.

Italian Greyhounds

These are not the two I sat for, but the older dog looks a lot like these two. Aren’t they just the sweetest puppies. The younger dog looks a lot like this one, only the dog I sat for had his ears cropped. (which I am not in favor of)

Lounging on the sofa.

The shy one would not come out of his crate. I waited for over 40 minutes for him to come out so I could get him into the back yard to do his business…no luck. I eventually had to lift him out of his crate and carry him to the back yard. Oh, he is also very fast. As soon as I lowered him to the ground he took off like greased lightning.

The only way to get him back into the house was to put him between myself and the house. Then I would corral him and move him toward the back door. He eventually ran into the house. Poor thing.

I spent all of Saturday evening with them and came again on Sunday morning for two hours before church. My friend and her husband returned around 5pm on Sunday.

My other activity this weekend was gruesome. It had to be close to 100 degrees on Sunday, but I went into the back yard and started pulling weeds and raking the miscellaneous debris in preparation for seeding a 1/4 of my back yard. Currently the only thing growing is dirt. You heard me DIRT!

I did so much sweating I must have lost 3 pounds. I hope I lost 3 pounds. After I finished raking I began to hall large rocks. They were in the area of the yard I wanted to seed. This took 4-5 wheel barrow trips. That done I proceeded to open the bag of grass seed. But, guess what…after all that blood sweat and tears, (not really blood), but plenty of sweat and tears (well I guess I didn’t cry either), but plenty of sweat, the seed was no good. You see I bought this grass seed quite a few weeks ago and it has been sitting outside all this time. You can imagine how much rain and humidity there has been, that’s right the seed had started to sprout in the bag and the seeds that didn’t sprout were all rotted. Entirely my fault, I should have planted it weeks ago.

I proceeded to lift this huge bag into the trash bin, boy did it stink. So to recap…a lot of hard work, with little gratification. I will need to buy more seed and hopefully this time I will plant it right away.

Needless to say at the end of the day I was filthy and very soar.

We have had a lot of snow this winter. Last weekend we had more snow and the city still hadn’t plowed our street from the previous weekend’s snowstorm.

It snowed again yesterday, the roads were a mess, very icy. I went into the university where I work and at 10am they decided to cancel classes and close down the university. The staff who made it to work were mad. I only live five minutes from work so it didn’t affect me as much as the others in our office. I stayed until 3:30 and then left a little early. Most of the university went home at 10am.

Well, Survivor began tonight. The 20th season…Heroes vs Villains. I watched the first hour and taped the second. The first hour was pretty good. I always tell myself I am not going to watch it because it is such a time commitment, but then…it begins and I get caught up in it all over again. I guess I would miss hearing those immortal words of Jeff Probts…The tribe has spoken, now beat it! Well, I added that last part. You know you want to say it to some of the castaways.

I have been working on two new knitting projects. I just finished a sweater for a co-worker who had a baby on Jan 5th. I used some leftover yarn from a hat I made this winter. It turned out pretty well.

This photo does not do justice to the beautiful burnt orange color.

I also am working on a pair of fingerless gloves, here is 1/2 of the pair.

Oh, and last weekend I had a small accident with our Rav4. I backed out of our driveway into a van, which was parked to close too the middle of the road, because there was so much snow on the side of the road. I dented the left rear fender on our vehicle and the right front fender on the van. The man was not happy. I can’t say that I blame him…I wasn’t very happy either.

Happy Valentine’s Day…a little early.

It started early Saturday morning about 3:30am. It snowed all day Saturday. I tried to make a quick trip to the knitting store, but I got stuck right after I backed out of our driveway. So I pulled back in and resigned myself to being stuck at home all day. I love the snow, but do not liked to be cooped up all week-end long.

Bogie and I decided to walk across the bridge (about 2 miles) to the nearest Starbucks on Saturday afternoon. It was very windy and cold walking across the long bridge, in snow almost up to our knees, only to find out that Starbucks was closed. So we trudged back across the bridge. As soon as I got home I made a big pot of warm coffee. Hazelnut creme. Delicious.

I did spend most of the weekend knitting. I finished a pair of fingerless mittens for a girl I work with. Now I am going to start on a pair of fingerless gloves. A little more challenging. Bogie wants a pair, so I thot I would give it a try. And I did make it to the knitting store today. I called first and they were open so I braved the snowy roads to pick up some more yarn. The main roads were pretty clear, but they haven’t plowed our neighborhood yet.

Bogie was so good. He shoveled our driveway, then he went down to a neighbor, who is 91 years old, and shoveled her sidewalk, and also helped our next door neighbors shovel their deck and sidewalk. The husband injured his shoulder and is just out of surgery, so Bogie was generous enough to help them with the shoveling. I almost forgot, he also helped the lady across the street shovel a path so she could get her disabled dog out to go to the bathroom.

Needless to say, Bogie is soar. But don’t feel too sorry for him, he gets another day off…his office is closed tomorrow due to the snow, unlike my work…which I just found out, is business as usual. Darn. It would have been nice to have a three-day weekend.

Oh and my boss was out sick today. Maybe that’s why I got so much completed at work today. It was also very stress-free.

Bogey and I were going to take two of our host students from the university where I work to Oktoberfest tomorrow night, but one has canceled on us (he is going with some friends to Philly) and I haven’t heard from the other one yet. We may just stay home if we don’t hear from him.

Saturday is the university football game, they are playing Massachusetts and then Saturday evening we are transporting some rescue dogs.

Have a good weekend.

We had a very nice weekend. My in-laws were here visiting us. They live in the Seattle area and came out for our nephew’s birthday last weekend. My husband’s brother lives in the D.C. area…I hope that is vague enough for you. My MIL and FIL spent a week visiting my BIL and family and then on Wednesday of last week they came down on the train to spend time with us.

I wasn’t able to take any time off of work, but my husband took off Friday afternoon. On Saturday my MIL and I went shopping. I bought a new pair of shoes, two pairs of work out pants, one work out top, and my MIL bought two tops and a pair of work out pants. Although she did take them back to Target yesterday.

I love to have company (guests). But I always eat too much when we have people visiting. I think I am in celebration mode, so I convince myself it’s okay to splurge. Yikes, yesterday I had Little Caesars pizza, almond bark, and chips. Oh, and I had a blueberry scone at Starbucks. I even had french fries for lunch. I desperately need to get back on track. Actually back on my treadmill will suffice.

I work at a university and recently found out one of my benefits is five one-hour sessions each semester with a personal trainer at the athletic center. I definitely should take advantage of that. I have already had three sessions with a trainer as a benefit of being a new employee.

I have finally ordered new glasses. I had my eyes examined last September and haven’t found a pair of glasses I liked well-enough to buy. Well, Saturday I went to Sam’s with my MIL and we picked out a very nice pair. I am very excited…I do have to wait 10 days for them to arrive though.

I found out last weekend that my SIL might be taking a trip to Egypt for two weeks. How exciting…the pyramids and the sphynx. Two must sees in my book. If she does end up going, she will miss her two boys and husband very much, but I told them to come and visit us the weekend in-between the two weeks. We would love to see them. I hope they take us up on the offer.

I almost forgot, my youngest sister is down in Aruba for three weeks. She called me on her birthday and I wished her a Happy Happy Birthday. It sounds like she is having a great time. Sunny and in the 80′s. She vacations there every year. A timeshare I believe. She turns 50 in 2011 and has invited family and friends down there for her birthday. I will definitely be there. I miss her very much. She lives in Wisconsin so we only see each other once or twice a year. Although we do talk on the phone and email quite a bit.

Well I need to get back to work. Have a great week everyone. All three of you.

I am feeling a little better today. My voice is slowly starting to come back. I hopped out of bed today and immediately stripped down to my skin…Saturday morning is my weekly weigh-in. I like to weigh on Saturday morning because my eating habits are usually good during the week, not so good on the weekend. When I was on my diet I used to weigh-in on Monday morning because it didn’t matter…I was dieting all week long then. This morning was a very woo-hoo, dance a little jig weigh-in. I have lost a total of 28 1/2 lbs since July. It actually looks like I might make it to 30 lbs. The previous week I had gained 1 1/2 pounds. Very bad eating that week. I had a very large cherry shake one night…YUMMY though. Sometimes I just have to splurge.

I proceeded to do my little jig, then I jumped in the shower. After my shower it was breakfast and then I washed the dishes from the night before. We have a dishwasher, but the door won’t open and I haven’t gotten the repairman in to look at it yet. So I have to wash dishes the old fashioned way. Bogey showered and then we were on our way.

Our first stop was the Vet’s office to give him a little more of our paycheck. We figured we weren’t sharing enough of it with him, so we bought some new prescription dog food for our little Charlotte. The Vet says it should help her avoid so many urinary tract infections. Keep your fingers crossed. We also bought the dogs heart worm pills.

Then we proceeded to 7-Eleven for our Saturday morning Big-Gulps, actually Super Big Gulps, but whose counting. We hopped back in the car and went to a used book store in town. They have a resident cat and the owner’s wife also came in while we were there with their dog. A very large dog. I am not sure what the breed is.

We didn’t get enough of books at the used store, so our next stop was Borders. I didn’t look around much, I bought one of Sue Grafton’s novels…T is for Trespass, a large coffee and a caramel and sat down to read. We spent about 45 minutes at Borders and then went to lunch at Applebee’s.

After Applebee’s we stopped at a local tea shop where Bogey buys his tea. I don’t drink regular tea, just herbal once in a while, so I rarely go in the shop. I wanted to buy a house warming gift for friends of ours and she drinks quite a bit of tea, so a tea shop seemed like a good place to look for a gift. We bought a copper tea canister along with some tea to put inside.

We then headed for home. We got home around 2:15. I want to spend some quality time with the puppies and then I am off to get a massage and Bogey will come along to work out. The massage is at the athletic center on the campus where I work. The massage is actually one of three I get for a class I am taking at the University. The class is three one-hour massages. Can you believe it. That’s it.

After the massage it’s home to the puppies and then this evening we are going out to dinner with some friends to an Ethiopian restaurant in town.

A very good Saturday all around.

Well, yesterday was my third day at the new job. It was the best day of the three that I worked this week. I am still not feeling comfortable, but I guess that’s expected. The Dean of the department started this department 20 years ago. Her second in charge has been there going on 18 years. Three others have been there four years and there is one gentleman in the department that started four months ago. There are also many student interns, who are all very nice. They all are international students, since I am in the International department of the college.

The benefits to my new job are wonderful. One of the benefits…they have a new athletic center. Very nice. Free membership for staff and spouses. I am going to take Bogey over there today to tour the center. He goes regularly to a Jewish Community Center. So if he likes this athletic center he can drop his membership and save us $60 bucks a month. Yeahh!

On a down note. My male dog has something wrong with him. Not sure yet what the problem is. We have an appointment at the Vet today at 11:00. My non-medical opinion is…he might have a hernia. Do dogs get hernias? Of course, I am a little LOT worried about him. I wish I could react a little more normally when my dogs are sick or hurt. I try, but that nagging worry monster comes sneaking back into my thots. He seems fine otherwise, he is just moving slowly up the stairs and has trouble jumping on the bed, couch and ottoman.

I will let you know the results of his visit in my next post. That’s about it. Today we are also going to a Civil War show and hopefully out to lunch.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Wow, the weekend flew by. It was cool both days. In the low 60′s. Friday after work my co-workers had a little going away party for me and another employee who is leaving this Friday. I will take off next Monday and Tuesday and then start my new job on Wednesday. I drove my husband over to the campus on Sunday during half-time of the Packer game. I showed him the building where I will be working and also the location of the new building the school is building for my department. It will be finished in Fall 2010. It is such a beautiful campus. I am looking forward to my new job. A little apprehensive … but I guess that’s to be expected.

The Packers lost to the Vikings in the last couple of minutes of the game. They could have won with a field goal, but the kicker missed. It must be hard to be a place kicker, especially when the fate of the game rests on your shoulders … if you make it, you are a hero … if you miss, you get the blame.

Boy, Fall has arrived. Our yard … both front and back … have many, many leaves. I picked up the leaves in our front yard and driveway last weekend, but you could not tell by looking out our front window last night. There are twice as many leaves now as there were last weekend. This will continue for many weeks. We will have to blow and rake leaves for several weeks into December. We live in a very wooded area and have many trees. I love it, but boy in the Fall, not as much.
