Summer heat

Well the summer is truly upon us.  HHH…hot, humid and hazy.

This weekend I dog sat for a co-worker/friend.  She has two Italian Greyhounds.  One is 10 the other is 8.  Both are very sweet.  The older of the two is very friendly, the younger very shy.  The younger dog looks like a small deer.

Italian Greyhounds

These are not the two I sat for, but the older dog looks a lot like these two.  Aren’t they just the sweetest puppies.   The younger dog looks a lot like this one, only the dog I sat for had his ears cropped. (which I am not in favor of)

Lounging on the sofa.

The shy one would not come out of his crate.   I waited for over 40 minutes for him to come out so I could get him into the back yard to do his business…no luck.  I eventually had to lift him out of his crate and carry him to the back yard.  Oh, he is also very fast.  As soon as I lowered him to the ground he took off like greased lightning.

The only way to get him back into the house was to put him between myself and the house.  Then I would corral him and move him toward the back door.  He eventually ran into the house.  Poor thing.

I spent all of Saturday evening with them and came again on Sunday morning for two hours before church.  My friend and her husband returned around 5pm on Sunday.

My other activity this weekend was gruesome.  It had to be close to 100 degrees on Sunday, but I went into the back yard and started pulling weeds and raking the miscellaneous debris in preparation for seeding a 1/4 of my back yard.  Currently the only thing growing is dirt.  You heard me DIRT!

I did so much sweating I must have lost 3 pounds.  I hope I lost 3 pounds.  After I finished raking I began to hall large rocks.  They were in the area of the yard I wanted to seed.  This took 4-5 wheel barrow trips.  That done I proceeded to open the bag of grass seed.  But, guess what…after all that blood sweat and tears, (not really blood), but plenty of sweat and tears (well I guess I didn’t cry either), but plenty of sweat, the seed was no good.  You see I bought this grass seed quite a few weeks ago and it has been sitting outside all this time.  You can imagine how much rain and humidity there has been, that’s right the seed had started to sprout in the bag and the seeds that didn’t sprout were all rotted.   Entirely my fault, I should have planted it weeks ago.

I proceeded to lift this huge bag into the trash bin, boy did it stink.  So to recap…a lot of hard work, with little gratification.  I will need to buy more seed and hopefully this time I will plant it right away.

Needless to say at the end of the day I was filthy and very soar.
