Gene Hackman

My husband and I recently attended a book signing for Mr. Gene Hackman.  He has retired from acting and was promoting his third novel.  This book is called Escape from Andersonville.  It is a work of historical fiction.  He co-authors the book with Daniel Lenihan.

The story takes place during the later part of the Civil War in a southern prison called…you guessed it Andersonville.  Several years ago there was a made for T.V. movie or mini-series about Andersonville.  Very gruesome.

We purchased a copy of the book and had Mr. Hackman autograph it.  I will read it and let you know at a later date what I think of the story.  Mr. Hackman looked good.  I wish he would have spoken more, his co-author did most of the talking.  Unfortunately Mr. Lenihan wasn’t a very good speaker in my estimation.  When Mr. Hackman answered a question about the book, he spoke very well.

We took away another souvenir of the event…

My hubby and Gene Hackman himself.

Hi!!!!!!!!! Sorry I’ve been gone so long……! Andersonville was in Georgia, right? I recently watched a program on History Channel about it! What a gruesome place. I beleive that 13,000 Union soldiers died there. There was also a prison near Chicago (I can’t remember the name) where that many or more Confederate soldires died. The Civil War was the worst!!

Now!! LOL! How have you been? You have a good looking hubby! My wife ‘drags’ me to book signings! She is an avid reader! I thinl I’ve met Dean Koontz about 9 times!! He recognizes me now!! HAH!!

Bonnie had a FUN birthday!! We took her to the beach….. in her bathing suit!!

    Take care of yourself sweetie!!
    Bye for now

Thanks for coming by. Wow, Dean Koontz, he is one of my favorite authors. I really want to meet Elizabeth George, I missed her by one week when I visited Wisconsin a few years back.

  • I finally found my way back. Luckily a google search rot thotlady brought you right up. Why didn’t I think of that sooner? (For some reason your link didn’t work off my blog and I must have forgotten to RSS you.)
I haven’t met any famous authors. That was neat you two got to meet Gene Hackman.

Thanks for finding your way back. Strange my link won’t work. It was great seeing and meeting Mr. Hackman. I will have to read his book to see if he is as good a writer as he is an actor.

  • Oh wow! How cool is that?

I met my favorite of all-time authors, Stephen King, on Oct 10th, 1994. What’s funny… me of little memory – I remember THAT! lol Ok, truth is… it was exactly ONE MONTH to the day from our wedding and my SIL gave me grief that I was leaving my hubby of a month to travel out of town overnight to see/hear Stephen King. If she hadn’t had mentioned it (more than once) I probably would have forgotten!

My husband, by the way, said, “GO! You’ll regret it if you don’t… life it too short to miss out on this b/c we’ve been married only a month!” :o )

I agree completely, you have to grab opportunity when it presents itself. Stephen King…so cool!
