Last night I was up in our library on the computer. My two dogs were lying at my feet sleeping. When all of a sudden my male dog jumps up and starts barking and heading for the living room downstairs. My female dog also starting barking and was right behind him. I went down to investigate what might be causing the commotion. My dogs do not bark at nothing. I looked out our bay window and I saw a large animal in my neighbors yard across the street. I didn’t have my glasses on, so I wasn’t sure what type of animal. My neighbor’s dog does get out quite a bit, so I thought it might be Teddy (his dog). I shooed the dogs upstairs and put up the baby gate and then put on my coat and decided to investigate what it might be. If it was Teddy I wanted to make sure he got back to my neighbors unharmed. I opened the front door, stepped out onto the stoop, then turned around and shut the door. As I turned back around I saw this animal running across my front lawn right in front of me. Scared the crap out of me (Oh my God you will never guess what just happened…and I can’t tell you). Anyway, the animal that ran across my path was a very large deer, no antlers. It was simply beautiful.
What amazed me about the whole thing is this. My dogs were not looking outside at the time they started barking and carrying on. They must have heard the deer, across the street. How amazing is that. Or maybe not so amazing. Dogs do have hyper-sensitive hearing. Or maybe there was more than one of them. We do see several deer at a time in our neighborhood. We live in a very wooded area and deer come through here all the time.
On an unrelated topic, below is a photo of our dog, Charlotte. She has had back surgery and recently had a problem with her immune system. I was just saying to Bogey the other night…”I can’t remember what Charlotte used to look like before her medical problems”, and I found this photo just now while looking for another one.
This is our beautiful girl, Charlotte. Her tail no longer looks this glorious,
but we love her all the more, because of her wonderful spirit.

Charlotte is a beauty! Maybe your dogs smelled the deer? They have a super-sensitive sense of smell too!
I hope you had a Wonderful Thanksgiving!!!!!
What a beautiful girl! And how cool that they alerted to the deer!
That is amazing!
